Lost and Found

I remember when I was in fourth or fifth grade my mom lost the diamond on her engagement ring. She had been cleaning and it had popped out somewhere. We knew it had to be in the house so we turned it upside down, even vaccuming and going through the bag, but... nothing. She was so sad and I've always been worried about that happening to me. So... Monday night I'm typing away on the computer when out of the corner of my eye I notice a gaping hole. Right in the middle of my engagement ring! Where the center diamond should have been! I was sick - it was ten o'clock at night and I had been all over creation that day - exercising, cleaning, up and down the aisles of Super Walmart, to the bus stop and back. Cameron came and immediately said "let's say a prayer and start looking." But I couldn't even narrow the search, and so after saying our prayer I half-heartedly combed across my bedroom carpet and then gave up and began the mourning process. I know it sounds silly, and in my head I realize that metal and rocks are not very important in the grand scheme of things... but I was completely heartsick! I cried all evening long and had dreams that night of when Cameron proposed and we were first engaged. I was just sick over the whole thing. Well, last night Olivia and I plopped down on my bedroom floor so that I could put some medicine on her ouchie and lo and behold, nestled down into my carpet, where I would not have seen it if my face wouldn't have been six inches away, was my diamond. Crazy, huh?! Of all of the places I had been that day that it would fall out at home, and of all of the places I could have laid down on the floor with Olivia... there it was. Shame on me for not having a little more faith!

woo-hoo! Time to get the prongs tightened...

So tips for next time (my husband worked at a jewelry store) - don't sleep with your ring on because it's too hard on the prongs, take it off to do dishes, hard labor, etc, get it cleaned often - they usually check to see if the diamond is loose during cleaning, and pray lots! :)

I'm glad you found it--i had only been engaged for 1 week--woke up in the morning frantically searching for it for hours--had to have fallen off in my sleep-but nowhere to be found--after feeling devastated, i got in the shower and it fell out of my underwear--don't ask me why! to this day, i don't wear it to bed anymore.

Oh Em, that is such a great story. I am so glad that you found it. I would be bawling non stop too. I think Heavenly Father understands what is important to us and he cares. I love hearing about peoples little miracles :)
